Cultural literacy: seen these movies? (via Kottke)
Jumping on a meme here, via Jason Kottke:
Film critic Jim Emerson recently compiled a list of 102 movies that you should see before you can consider yourself movie literate. How well do you score?
Here’s my list: 54 out of 102. I guess I’m only semi-literate then. I have a membership at Boite Noire, I have no excuse.
Items in italics are ones I have yet to see. So now I have 48 excuses for movie dates.

I love lists, and I love this one, thanks for posting it and pointing it out. I have seen all of them except for 4. I am so jealous you have all those cool movies left to see! I’ve seen many of these several times and own a lot on dvd. (well, I am a film nut, and make short films so ya know) I have not seen, Bambi, Children of Paradise. Scarlet Empress and Tokyo Story. so I have some “homework”. I never saw Bambi because my mum wouldn’t let us she thought it would screw us up. She managed to do that instead, heh heh. I’ve kind of avoided it but maybe its time to rebel against my parents and see Bambi. It’s possible I’ve seen Scarlet Empress but am not clicking with the title, something is familiar in its name.
Love this list, thanks again, fun!

I wasn’t familiar with it either. It’s a Marlene Dietrich pic about the Russian aristocracy, made in 1934.

Ooooo. I like this meme. Not that I’m gonna score any better, but I’d like to play anyhow. Next week. I’m curious to see how many of the movies I haven’t seen are at my south shore Videotron.
