At tonight’s YULBlog meetup the topic of six-degrees-of-separation came up over and over again. So, from the trivia dept:
I used to take bass lessons with Hansford Rowe a former member of prog-rock-jazz group Gong who lived part-time in Montreal; his actor father, Hansford Rowe Sr, played Leon Bavardage in Bonfire of the Vanities alongside Tom Hanks; and Tom Hanks was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon.
But, you know, we don’t hang out much these days…

1. One of my closest friends is Terence Bowman, actor/writer/comic/improver;
2. Terence filmed a scene in The Sum of All Fears with Ben Affleck;
3. Ben Affleck appeared in Forces of Nature with Sandra Bullock;
4. Sandra Bullock co-starred in Speed with Keanu Reeves;
5. Keanu Reeves starred in The Matrix, which featured Lawrence Fishburne;
6. Lawrence Fishburne was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon.
No doubt there are closer connections, but this one neatly takes six steps.

3 I shook hands with Jane Fonda when I was 11 at a Vietnam demonstration and handed her a gift (a Vietnamese hat) on behalf of all the Dutch children.
2 Jane Fonda was in Agnes of God (1985) with Deborah Grover.
3 Deborah Grover was in Where the Truth Lies (2005) with Kevin Bacon.
So my Bacon number is 3.
